Mario R Mion Political Science Honors Scholarship

The Mario R. Mion Political Science Honor Scholarship was established in 2006. This scholarship was named for Dr. Mario Mion, who taught at Columbus State University for 30 years.
Dr. Mion was born in Italy, but his family fled their homeland to avoid persecution from Mussolini's Fascists. First going to the Netherlands, the family was once more forced to leave by that government.
The Mion family came to America, where young Mario was drafted into the U.S. Army. He used this opportunity to learn the English language, then continued his education and finally earned his doctoral degree in political science from the University of Wisconsin.
Dr. Mion served as department head of the Political Science Department for five years, and retired in 2006. He was named a Professor Emeritus in 2007.
